The story behind the butterfly design is our 2nd graders were involved in a symbolic migration project for butterflies that migrate from the northeast to Mexico during the winter months. The students made these beautiful butterflies on the computer and mailed them to Mexico, a symbolism of our monarchs leaving the northeast to winter in Mexico. As the real monarchs make their way back to the northeast, we are hoping that our students will receive symbolic butterflies in return.
